5 Tips to Instantly Improve your Website's SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to techniques that help you achieve better ranking for your website in organic search results. SEO is all about making your website more visible to an audience using a search engine to find your product, brand, or services.

SEO is not a one-time thing or a get-traffic-quick scheme. It is a constant process in which you are continually changing your website to rank for the best keywords that describe your website content.

To understand your website’s performance, the first step is to set up your website’s Google Analytics. This should only take a few moments to set up, and you will start seeing the results of your website’s traffic usually within 24 hours.

#1 - Keyword Research

Keyword Research is the most important part of the 5 Ways to Improve your Website’s SEO. You can use great tools like SEM Rush to do the heavy lifting. Get your free 7-day trial and see for yourself.

Have no fear for everyone who wants to do the research themselves. There are FREE keyword tools that will produce the same results with a bit more work.

Google Keyword Planner, Google Search bar, and Google Trends are your best friends for performing keyword research for your website.

#2 - Title Tags

Title Tags should be no longer than 70 characters. Be sure to use the website’s central keyword in the title tag. Be sure not to exceed the maximum length of the title tag, or it will be truncated in the SERPs. If possible, use your brand name in the title tag, for example, your website URL.

Use a unique title tag for each web page.

#3 - Meta Descriptions

A piece of text that describes the contents of a specific page. Meta descriptions are usually displayed as text below the blue links in search engine results. There is a 175-character max (for effectiveness).

Tips: End your meta description with a call to action. Do not exceed the maximum length of 175 characters, or the description will be cut off in the Search Engine Page Results (SERPs).

#4 - Alt Tags

Alt tags are words that identify the images on your webpage.

#5 - Website Page Speed

There are dozens of factors that influence your website’s page speed, but usually, there are two culprits when it comes to slow websites.

Images with large file sizes.

One of my favorite websites to test your website's speed is GTMetrix.

If your image sizes are large, it will take a while for

Webhosting.

This is a big one… Many free and low-priced hosting for WordPress or custom websites

Website themes with bad code.

I’ve bought dozens of themes for myself and clients from ThemeForest and customized the theme according to the company brand. In my experience, these are very well-coded and efficient themes for both WordPress and Shopify websites.

You can adjust code and resize all the images you want, but if you are not using a great host, your website speed still will not be optimal. You don't have this concern for website builders like Shopify, Squarespace, and others. However, selecting the right website host is very important when you use WordPress or custom-code websites.

One of the best and most cost-effective hosting services is Bluehost
